Paulie Malignaggi talks about defending WBA middleweight championship – Boxing News
Briton fighter Paulie Malignaggi will be defending his WBA middleweight championship against Pablo Cesar Cano. Malignaggi currently stands with 31 wins, 4 losses and 7 knockouts in his portfolio. He spoke to the media regarding his title defence fight, revealing
his preparations for the bout. He even spoke of his past fights, shedding some light over the reasons behind his recent failures.
“You know, the last fight I didn’t really look to go for the knockout, it kind of just came. But that’s how I approach every fight,” said Malignaggi when asked about his last knockout defeat. “We’ve been working on a little bit more aggression in the gym
with Eric Brown. I’ve always been a guy that had good legs and has been able to use my legs, but also develop an arsenal as far as things we can do to come forward as well and it will make me that much more of a well-rounded fighter.”
He added that he is the type of fighter who gauges his opponents in the ring and if the opponent is not aggressive enough, he will make the move himself to go forth and start the attack. According to Malignaggi, he is well rounded fighter and he likes it
that way.
When asked about his views regarding fighting in his hometown, Malignaggi asserted that this was the main reason why he signed up with Golden Boy. According to Malignaggi, Golden Boy has done a tremendous job in bringing him back and now his moment is here
and he wants to give his best to it.
Malignaggi, who has been going through a rough patch in his career, revealed he has tried his level best to surround himself with positive people to have a positive vibe around. According to him, this is the only way to make positive things happen.
Malignaggi spoke about his loss to Bolton fighter Amir Khan, saying that all the negative people disassociated themselves from him. According to him, when you lose, all the negative people leave your side but the positive ones stay.
When asked if he has ever considered himself a write-off, Malignaggi nodded saying indeed he did at one point in his career but now he is ready to revive his career.
