Pauline Marie Tan and Marilou P Romero win the second round of Philippine Badminton Ranking System
Philippine’s Pauline Marie Tan and Marilou P Romero won their second-round matches of women’s singles in the first leg of the 2011 Philippine Badminton Ranking System, at Makati Philippine today, March 29. Pauline defeated the younger compatriot Kristina
G Tan in straight sets, whereas Romero thrashed Jaimee Richelle D Calacday in the same fashion. The winners will play against each other in the quarterfinal match, which will be played tomorrow, March 30.
Pauline started the match in an aggressive manner by employing powerful smashes and dominated the rallies in the opening part of the first set. Kristina also played well and remained close till 5-5, where the experienced Pauline accelerated the speed and
took a comfortable lead of 11-6 till the interval. After the one-minute break, the senior shuttler maintained the lead and won the first set by 21-13 in just 13 minutes.
In the second game, Kristina played better by controlling the rallies in the first half of the set where she was ahead at 11-10. After getting back into the court, both ladies worked well and remained close till 17-17. The local crowd became silent all of
a sudden as the ladies expanded the duration of rallies to avoid mistakes at this crucial stage. However, Pauline managed to score the remaining points and won the set by a narrow margin of 21-18, in 17 minutes. The ending score of the match was 21-13 and
21-18.
In another match, Romero entertained the crowd with a superb performance against Jaimee. It was a completely one-sided match as Romero showed no mercy to the opponent and clinched the opening set by a stunning margin of 21-8 by spending just 10 minutes on
court.
Jaimee tried to increase her speed in the opening half of the second game but failed to stop the aggressive run of the senior opponent. Romero played some fancy strokes to demonstrate her skills and quickly reached at 11-5. She continued her impressive performance
after the interval and finished the match by winning the second set with a 21-10 score on the board. The final score of this one-sided match was, 21-8 and 21-10.
