Paulo Ferreira Confident He Can Stop Gareth Bale Ahead Of Tottenham Clash
Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira will face a daunting task today, stopping Gareth Bale, as Chelsea travel to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. However, the Portuguese international is confident
he is up to the task. Bale caught everyone’s attention during the Champions League fixtures against Inter Milan, it was because of him the London side defeated Rafael Benitez’s Inter Milan and finished top of their group.
The preceding fixtures in the Premier League were a case of the club’s man marking Bale and trying to limit him. However, the Welshman has still managed to make a difference for his side, making runs and setting up goals. His recent
performances have led to comparisons to the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. Pundits have predicted that Bale will once again be in excellent form and if not score, then set up a goal against the Blues.
Ferreira, who is expected to start at White Hart Lane today, insisted that he would do everything to stop the youngster. He spoke of last season’s corresponding fixture and while he praised Bale, he was confident he would perform
better this time around. He said, “If I have to play against Gareth Bale again, I will be ready. I will try to give everything. He did very well against me last April [Bale scored as Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-1 at White Hart Lane] but let's see what he
will do this time.”
Ferreira admitted that Bale was younger and thus faster, but the Blues defender was determined to give it his all. He added, “He is in great shape and it will be difficult to mark him but Spurs are not just about Bale. They
have a good team as well. He is a very quick player and it is hard to keep up with him. Even Maicon struggled against him earlier in the season for Inter and he is one of the best right-backs in the world but I will do everything to stop him.”
Despite a great start to the season, Chelsea have had a run of poor performances, which have seen them give up their lead at the top of the Premier League. This makes the clash at White Hart Lane a must win for the Blues, who are
now fourth on the table behind Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City. There is hope yet; a win against Tottenham will mean the Blues will still have a shot in the title race, though they will still be waiting on the result from when Arsenal take on
Manchester United on Monday.
