Pavel Babaev captures Men’s 50m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Pavel Babaev of Swim Florida-FL captured gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on day three of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 14.
The 29-year-old Babaev displayed his gruelling efforts in the shortest freestyle event and rushed his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his commendable pace, Babaev remained just an inch away from his following swimmer and secured gold medal of the discipline with a wonderful timing of 22.98 seconds.
The champion was chased by Shaune Fraser of Gator Swim Club, who stayed only 0.03 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with a nice effort of 23.01 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the event was obtained by Paul L Murray of Unattached-FL, who remained 0.36 seconds behind and clocked an impressive timing of 23.37 seconds.
Similarly, the bronze medallist was followed by Go Eisenberger of Pine Crest-FG, who remained only 0.30 seconds away from occupying third position and finished fourth in the event with the timing of 23.67 seconds.
The 18-year-old Eisenberger was trailed by Brett M Fraser of Gator Swim Club, who was 0.04 seconds behind and posted a time of 23.71 seconds for fifth spot.
Following that, the crowd witnessed mind-blowing efforts of Nick C Carter and Garland Sullivan of Westminster Academy, who secured a joint finish for sixth position of the race by posting an effort of 24.23 seconds.
The duo was chased by Aj J Barbar of Westminster Academy, who remained 0.09 seconds behind and snared eighth spot of the race by clocking a time of 24.32 seconds.
Ninth spot of the event was obtained by Juli Ballestas of Metro AC Miami-F, who stayed 0.05 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 24.37 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Or Gudmundsson of SC Hafnarfjordur, who was 0.03 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 24.40 seconds for tenth position.
In addition, Babaev expressed contentment after clinching gold medal of the event and articulated his desire of doing the same at elite levels of international swimming.
