Pavel Poltavtsev seizes Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Pavel Poltavtsev of Russia won gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke in SB9 category on last day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 8.
The Russian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the double lap breaststroke discipline, where he overpowered his challengers and made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, Poltavtsev enjoyed a lead of almost two body lengths over his closest competitor and emerged on the finishing blockade for the crown by producing a time of 1 minute and 04.02 seconds.
Poltavtsev was followed by Kevin Paul of South Africa, who remained 1.68 seconds behind and secured silver medal of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 05.70 seconds.
Paul was trailed by Furong Lin of China, who remained 1.70 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and transpired on the wall as third best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.40 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Jack Bridge of Great Britain, who stayed exactly three seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds for fourth position.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Rick Pendleton of Australia, who remained only 0.56 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 10.96 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was traced by Adriano Nascimento of Portugal, who remained full body length behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 11.87 seconds for sixth position.
Nascimento remained just 0.22 seconds ahead of .Denis Dorogaev of Russia, who secured seventh position of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 12.09 seconds.
Dorogaev was chased by Shahin Izadyar of Islamic Republic of Iran, who was 0.38 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 12.47 seconds.
In addition, Poltavtsev was overjoyed with his form in the 100m event after the session.
