Pavol Cervenak beats Mischa Zverev in first round – Mercedes Cup 2011
24-year-old Slovakian, Pavol Cervenak outmanoeuvred the 23-year-old German, Mischa Zverev; winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 during the first round of the Mercedes Cup 2011 at the TC Weissenhof Court, Stuttgart, Germany.
Pavol serving first; had played four aces, one double fault, had a seventy four percent first serve win along with fifty three percent win in first return points. He excellently saved three out of four break points and was able
to win two out of three break point advantages that were presented to him. Whereas, Zverev played the first serve very poorly as he was only able to win seven out of fifteen points. He was only able to save one out of the three break points and had won only
one out of the four break point advantages.
Mischa, on the other hand, won only fifteen out of twenty nine total first serve points and eleven out of thirty total return points; he barely managed to win forty four percent of his total set points. Whereas, the total serve
points won in the set by Pavol were nineteen out of thirty, this was almost twice as more than his opponent. He also attained forty eight percent of his total return points won, thus gaining an upper hand with a lead of 1-0; his total set points won were thirty
three out of fifty nine, a good fifty six percent victory.
After taking a thrashing in the first set, Mischa bounced back into the game winning the set 6-4. Zeverev’s return game was excellent; he managed to win forty five percent of total return points. He struck zero aces, utilized two
out of three breakpoints to his advantage and won seventy five percent of his first serve points. Although Pavol, had availed the only break point advantage, he was unable to hit with accuracy and struck two double faults and failed to save two break points,
thus enabling the German to equal the set score to 1-1
The third set saw a comprehensive victory for the right handed Slovakian, he managed to win nine out of eleven first serve points along with sixty seven percent of second return points. He accomplished a hundred percent of his
break points. On the contrary, Mischa was worn out and was not able to play; He was unable to save any of the two break points that were presented to him. He had a mere twenty seven percent of total return points won and hence, barely, attained a mere thirty
nine percent of the total set points.
Overall, Cervenak played 4 aces, struck 4 double faults and won sixty two percent of total service points along with only forty two percent of total return points won, thus, giving him a total of eighty four match points out of
one hundred and fifty nine as to his opponent who managed to attain a total of seventy five match points out of the total of one hundred and fifty nine and therefore, Pablo won the match with two set in hand.
The world number 287, Slovakian will now face Victor Hanescu from Romania in the second round of the Mercedes Cup 2011.
