Pavol Cervenak beats Simon Greul to advance in qualies – Mercedes Cup 2011
Kicking off the first match of the second qualifying round at the TC Weissenhof court, Slovak Pavol Cervenak upset local Simon Greul in straight sets at the 2011 Mercedes Cup. Simon is currently ranked at world No. 133 while the
Slovakian is way below at No.287. The Slovak took only eighty five minutes to upset the qualifying top seed in straight sets, securing a 6-1, 7-5 win.
The match started off with a roaring crowd giving an electrifying welcome to both the player. Serving first, the World No. 133 made his advantage count as he won the first set. It was till then that the Slovakian gave the inform
German his worst nightmare. Making no mistakes throughout the set, the World No. 287 won with a surprise 6-1 against the home boy in the first set. While the German struggled with double faults throughout the match, Pavol bagged the set with three aces and
sixteen service winners to gain a 1-0 lead.
Despite the fact that the second set had same outcome, this set was worth watching. The German, at a point, seemed to bounce back and take away the set but Pavol outgunned the World No.133. Winning twenty service points and eighteen
return points, the Slovakian brushed away the set once again totalling the points to 38 in the second set and taking away the match with a total of 62 points to 45.
The 6’1”, World No.133 had no chance to recover in the match and had to face misery at home. The German fans once again went back in agony as they had already seen their team lose on their home ground in the quarterfinal round
of the Davis Cup 2011, just days ago.
Pavol is now the first person to qualify for the final qualifying round of the Mercedes Cup 2011. He now moves on ahead to play Burot Puc for a spot in the main draw. Making his mark in the first match, he in undoubtedly an upset
to the tour. Focusing his eyes on the brand new Mercedes, the Slovakian is determined to see himself enter his country in German Style, the Blue Efficiency convertible the mighty E 350 CGI.
