Pavol Cervenak vs Victor Hanescu – Second Round Preview - Mercedes Cup 2011
Day two of the 2nd round of the Mercedes Cup 2011 will see the likes of Pavol Cervenak, the Slovakian against the Romanian Victor Hanescu at the TC Weissenhof Court, Stuttgart, Germany.
The two players are not meeting for the first time; both the players have experienced the technique and skills of one another. They battled each other twice in 2007 prior to this event. The Romanian has a 2-0 lead in their head
to head and is likely to add another point.
On May 14th 2007 the two crossed swords for the first time on a classic clay court at the Unique Zagreb Open, Zagreb, Croatia. Despite the age factor Victor won the match 6-1, 7-6(2) winning the tiebreaker and gaining
a 1-0 match lead against Pavol.
The Celestial Power had made fate cross their paths again but this time they met at the Tatra Banka Slovak Open in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was time for Cervenak to avenge his loss and thus battled it out on an indoor hard court
but alas! He lost [6-3, 7-6(4)] again to his Romanian rival giving him an all time lead.
Both the players will be meeting for the third time today, many experts and critics are of the view that the 29-year old Victor has a competitive edge over Pavol Cervenak due to his 2-0 lead. However, some experts also assume that
the 24-year-old Slovakian would have caught on to his opponent’s game play.
Standing at world number sixty four the Romanian (Victor Hanescu) has played a total of 628 matches in his life out which 345 were played at the professional level. He has won 164 matches and lost 181 and this year he has won 15
matches ad lost 19. Hanescu’s career high ranking was on the 6th of July 2009 when he was standing at world number 26. This year he has played three Grand Slams and has had an experience of playing world top 30 players. Wimbledon was his last run
where he won the first round 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 but lost the second round to world number ten Andy Roddick. At the Roland Garros he qualified the first round, but in the second round he lost two set only to retire in the third to then world number two Novak Djokovic.
The 24-year-old, Pavol Cervenak ranks at 287 and has played a total of 421 games throughout his life out of which he has won 245 matches and has lost 176. This year he has played fifty three matches out which he won 31 and lost
22. Earlier this year he played the Australian Open but lost in the qualifying round one thus never making it to the main draw.
The Celestial Power has given yet another chance to Pavol to avenge his loss, however for that to happen the right handed Slovakian needs to topple the Romanian wall in the 2nd round of the Mercedes Cup.
