Okay I am 14 and have been using paxil for about two or three months.

It has always been only 10mg. I recently decided that I can stop since I feel completely better with my stress. I cut it in half for about three days and have finally been off of it for about three days. I know about the withdrawel since I have tried to stop it before. I feel weak and somewhat sick. Agitated from time to time. But the sickness isnt as bad as the emotional craziness. I cry over everything and get mad at people. (But this doesnt happen until nightime) like I said ive been off it for about three days and start school on monday....would it be best for me to start again? (Which I dont want to do since ive come this far) what I REALLY want to know is how long this will last. I feel a little better everyday. Thank you so much for your replies.

  1. I take it you received doctors' orders to take the Paxil in the first place? You should never decide on your own to stop the medication. That is up to your doctor. Especially if it's been helping you, your body probably needs it to maintain that feeling. Stopping and starting the medication is like a shock to your system, so before starting the drug again you need to contact your doctor.

  2. Like you, I thought I could stop my medication because I felt so much better!  Anti-depressants are not like an antibiotic--once you feel better you can stop taking it. Please take your medication as prescribed by your doctor.

Why do you want to stop taking your medicine?  If you were diabetic, would you stop taking your insulin shots?  Anti-depressants treat an illness in the same way insulin helps diabetics.

There is nothing to be ashamed of if you need to take medication for an illness.

I, at the ripe old age of 46, know that I will be taking anti-depressants every day forever.  I treat it like a vitamin.  When I wake up in the morning, I take my "happy" pill.  Please see your doctor and talk to him/her about your meds.  Good luck!

  3. Go back on the Paxil. If you really want to stop then talk to your doctor about it, but until then take it every day!
