Pay Stub Question?

Hi,

I just started a new full time salaried position and received my first pay stub.

I was paid with two checks for the same pay period ending.

The 1st check covered my regular base pay. But the 2nd check included a $5,000 amount called "miscellaneous". I wasn't expecting to recieve the 2nd check at all, it was a nice surprise though. Haha.

What could this extra $5,000 be from??? And why is it called "miscellaneous."

Thank you

  1. It could be a bonus or something else.  I would simply ask my employer.

Congrats!  I'd like to open a surprise check like that!

  2. Why not ask your employer.  Make sure everything is done right so you don't get a nasty surprise later.

  3. There's no way to tell.  It could be anything from a hiring bonus to an accounting error.  If you signed an employment contract, you should read it through to see if this is included in the document.  If not, you need to ask an H.R. representative or payroll department at your company.

  4. If you don't know what it was for it is likely a mistake.  When you were hired you may have received a contract or other employment information.  You should read that carefully to see if this was some sort of bonus.  If you don't find anything there, Go talk to your HR people.

  5. You better ask.  It may be an error and you wouldn't want to spend it, only to find out you have to pay it back.  Ouch!  I hope its something you can keep!!!

  6. It could be a bonus.

Check with your personnel manager, they can tell you what it was for.

  7. It is a bonus of some kind.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  8. Did you get hired with a signing bonus? That is unusual. I definetly would ask your payroll dept. because if you are like me they will find out a year from now that you were not supposed to get it which will cause much larger problems!! Misc. alot of times does mean a bonus of some kind!!
