Pay for delete?

Is it too late to do a pay for delete if someone has a balance of $13,000 and has been making payments to the collection agency for 14 months?

Or do they have to do a pay for delete before they even begin to make monthly payments to a collection agency?

You can attempt a pay for delete at anytime, but you may have lost some bargaining leverage since you have been making payments for 14 months.  At this point, they know that you have the ability to pay and may insist that you keep paying rather than settling for less in exchange for a deletion off of your credit record.  The bottom line is that there is no harm in trying since there is no guarantee that any creditor will ever accept a pay for delete offer.
