Paying For Rental Car From Avis With Cash?

I need to rent a car this sunday, and I was wondering if you think it'd be an issue to pay with cash? I do have both a credit and debit card but would prefer to not pay with them. I mean I can if I HAVE to! I just know there are a lot of special requirements when it comes to renting a car, especially because I'm 19 they're gonna charge me a huge surcharge... I just don't wanna go over there to pick up the car and have something go wrong so my whole trip gets messed up. Any advice is appreciated!

Steve's advice is good.  When you rent the car, put all the information on your credit card.  It will not be charged until the rental period is over.  At that point, just pay it in cash.  

They need to put it on the credit card as financial protection; again, it won't be charged until you give permission to do so.

You will have to put down a significant deposit (cash) if you want to pay in cash.  What I would to is rent it with a credit card and then when you turn it in you can pay with cash and they will credit the card.  I would check ahead of time with the car rental company because most of them will not rent to anyone under 21.  A lot of them even have age 25 as their cutoff so be sure to do this ahead of time or you may be disappointed at the airport!

Yes, you must have the minimum available funds on the credit card unless you can leave a fairly high cash deposit.  The amount of deposit varies with the company.  Check with the company that you are renting from to see how much it is.  Also, even though NY's minimum age is 18 that doesn't mean that a car rental company has to rent to someone 18.  Be sure to check this ahead of time, and with the car rental company - you don't want a surprise.
