If my cell phone (I'm with Koodo.) is in my Dad's name, can I be the one to write a cheque to pay the bill? Will they accept a cheque that isn't written by him, but by me instead?

  1. Companies do not like to refuse any money offered as payment of accounts in good standing and almost never will put procedures in place to try to verify that all payments come from an "authorized" source.  If they were to send a check back (the only way to refuse it) they know that they will be out the cost of sending it back and will not receive any other payment for awhile.  And if they mistakenly send back a check they should have accepted, it could cause them even more grief.

Even in the unlikely case Koodo has a policy requiring payments be made only by the owner of the account, the person processing the payment is extremely unlikely to be paying enough attention or even have the information needed to notice the discrepancy.

If you want to be positive and have online access to account information make a payment early with your check and watch the account to ensure it is credited to the account.
