Paying a Traffic Ticket Through the Mail Question...?

by  |  earlier

I got a ticket last thursday morning (7/17) and I put the check in the mail to pay the ticket on saturday (7/19). I still haven't seen the check clear in my bank account and my court date was scheduled for tomorrow, wednesday the 23rd (if i didnt pay the ticket or if i planned on contesting it). I'm a little worried that theres gonna be some problems tomorrow since im not going to court and apparently they havent cashed my check! Anyone ever had a situation like this? Are cops gonna show up at my door and arrest me because the USPS is too slow? lol any advice/help/experience is REALLY appreciated :)

  1. You can call the courts traffic divison and tell them you mailed the payment off and they will be able to tell you if your check has been processed or not. Even if it hasnt cleared the bank yet.

Cops arent going to show up and take you away.  lol  hopefully anyway.

Just call the court tomorrow and find out if they got the payment yet or not.

You can get an extension anyway and that should cover the delay the postman caused.

  2. I think you will be ok. If I were you, I would call the courthouse in the morning and explain to them that you have aleady mailed the check, but it hasn't cleared the bank yet. I suspect that they will tell you that they have received it.

I don't know what state you live in, but where I work, we are not supposed to issue a court date so close to the date the citation was written; we have to give a court date at least 3 weeks away.

Best of luck and I hope this helps.
