Paying attention to offers for Giancarlo Stanton a part of Miami Marlins policy - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins have made it clear that they will seriously consider interests shown by various teams in their outfielder, Giancarlo Stanton.
Doing so does not necessarily means that they want to get rid of him; it is just consistent with their policy of dealing with matters.
The talks of the trade of Stanton produce immediate criticism from the fans, as they believe it is another attempt to play with their wounds.
They are already disheartened, after the club shipped some of the star players on the roster to the Toronto Blue Jays through a trade.
They are not in a position to face another quality player leave their organisation.
At the moment, Stanton is one of the few bright spots for them.
His ability to strike mammoth home-runs and lead the team to wins single-handedly fascinates them and keeps them coming to the stadium to watch the Marlins.
During the 2012 season, Stanton was among the few hitters in the team that produced excellent shows at the plate consistently.
Above all, he was the only one who clinched a spot on the All-Star game roster from the Marlins, apart from being announced for the Home Run Derby.
To his misfortune, he got injured before the high profile fixture between the National League and the American League as he did not participate.
Regardless of the credentials of Stanton, the Marlins are currently looking at the future.
They appear to be willing to trade Stanton, if they receive some lucrative offers.
Their management is trying to consolidate the Minor League and build up an army of highly talented prospects.
Dan Jennings, who is an assistant general manager for Miami, has expressed that no player is indispensable.
"Oh, I think that's been our [modus operandi]. I know in the 10 years I've been here, that's our M.O.," Jennings said. "We've never not listened to a deal on any player. Sometimes I chuckle when I hear people say, 'This guy's untouchable,' and 'That guy's
untouchable.' You know what? They may be untouchable, until someone either overwhelms you or you get a package back that makes such a significant improvement on your club going forward. So we've always been willing to listen."
Stanton will be disappointed if he is traded before the upcoming season, just like he was when the Marlins inked an agreement with the Blue Jays earlier.
