Question:

Paying customs charges on deliveries?

I have ordered some clothes over the internet from the USA and today I found out I have to pay 14 quid in customs charges. Is there any way I can get this reimbursed and why should I have to pay it? Shouldn't the company have mentioned this when I bought the items? Thanks

you can check the above link to ascertain the facts.

I did this sometime ago and now find that instead of ordering sevral items together just order what is below the taxable limit.

or find a similar item from with the EU.

  2. Nope. We have to pay charges for anything shipped in from outside the EU. Has your parcel arrived yet? If not, there's a chance it will get through customs without being picked up. The people working there only select parcels at random, and others get through without the recepient being charged. I don't think the company is obligated to warn you about customs, since it is Government regulation for anything more than £18.

  3. Hi!

No, there's now way you can be re-imbursed for it.

No, the company who sold it to you has no idea what our customs charges are and so cannot anticipate what (if anthing) you would be charged.

The reason you have to pay it is that it is a tax on a import - i.e. import tax!

    Hope this helps!!

  4. No, you have to pay our customs charges, but if you've been charged US sales tax, which would probably be inc in the price, you could have a go at claiming that back, but it would hardly be worth it! not too sure, but you certainly can when you are in the States, you would need an invoice showing the sales tax - it's not usually worth it and if you are there, they will more often than not, give you discount equivalent. It probably has a disclaimer somewhere in the t&c of the site, regarding overseas dities and taxes
