okay here's a question for you

lets see two people take a taxi (lets say from Santa Monica

but they are not going to getting out of of the taxi at the same

destination

one passenger would get off at Point A (her home)

then the other passenger would continue in the taxi to point

b (his home (about 5 minutes apart)

how do we pay for the taxi? does Passenger A just

pay for her portion of the meter? ) or does

passenger B pay for everyone when the taxi arrives at his

destination?

  1. It would seem fair to me that Person A should pay 50% of the cab fair at the point they are dropped off.  Person A shouldn't have to be responsible for the cab fair for the remainder of the ride, especially if it's a long distance.

  2. Are you two together? If you are then 45% for person A and 55% for person B. Since person B is going a longer way. However if you are not together then it should be A pays their whole bill and B pays their whole Bill!

  3. Depends.  If the two of you decided to share a ride, and flag a taxi then the first passenger should give passenger 2 half of the fare to point A.  Then the second passenger pays for the full fare from start to point B.

If the driver loaded both of you into the car without the two of you agreeing to share the ride then:

100 % of the fare from Santa Monica to Point A from the first passenger

The second passenger pays 100% of the fare from Santa monica to Point B.

Yes, I think its rude too especially since the driver's only going to tell the company about the second passenger, and pocket the first fare.

  4. Each should pay 50% and stop worrying about such silly stuff. You offer at least and if the other wants to pay then great! Pay your part when you get out--thats easy....

  5. taxis charge by the zone per person so a pays for hers and b pays for his or if b is a gentleman he will pay for both

  6. At destination A, check the cost on the meter and divide in half. Give B that amount. When taxi arrives at destination B, they will be able to pay A's portion and their half (up to destination "A" drop off) and the remaining balance of the amount due.

  7. As a former taxi driver, let me tell you how I would do it. Lets say I pick up 2 people up at the supermarket. Both people are unfamiliar with each other but both are willing to share the cab. Passenger 1 would be dropped off at the closest drop off with the 2nd being dropped off say 10 minutes up the road. You must charge 2 different fares. Now lets put the shoe on the other foot for a moment. If both parties you pick up and want to be dropped off separately and live at the same residence and are willing to share the cab, they are usually charged the fare with the most distant drop with a dollar for the stop. By doing this might also get you a bigger tip.
