I've read a number of answers that mention paying for the background check when you purchase a firearm. In Michigan there is no separate fee. I'm curious, what states make you pay and how much?

  1. well. that I know of there is no comprehensive list compiled, and it varies from state to state. Illinois  charges a whopping two dollars, its free in the state i live in . . . . however there is a ffl transfer fee that varies from $5 to $25 bucks, so even though the nics system is free a ffl dealer can still recuperate the cost for his/her time filling out the paperwork and phoning it in . . . . I imagine if there is someone you know well enough it could be done for free . . . .  speaking of free . . . . fell free to compile yourself a list from the related link below . . . because I have no inclination nor desire to do it for you . . .  and  i seiously doubt you'll find someone who will

  2. There's no charge in Ohio that i know of, but i know of some stores that deal primarily in mail order C&R stuff that will charge you a fee to run a 4473 if you go into the shop and don't have a C&R license.

  3. In Pennsylvania they charge from 5 to $12.00 Dollars.*

  4. GA. doesn't, or atleast every time i've bought a gun they havent.

  5. The state agency in Utah (BCI or Bureau of Criminal Identification) charges dealers $7.50 for each background check. Most dealers add that as a separate charge on a firearm purchase, some include it in the price of the gun.

  6. Nevada charges a $25 fee for every purchase :(
