Question:

Paying for the monarchy?

I know alot of people will say its about the principle, but I don't understand why people complain so much about the taxpayer having to pay for the monarchy.

Its around 62p a year for each person, and I would personally rather pay for an institution which represents the UK's vibrant history and gives us individuality and a bit of glamour compared to these bland republics, then buy like a packet of crisps!

The revenue from tourism put back into the state because of the monarchy is probably higher then what we pay the monarchy per year.

What do you think?

  1. The example that the monarchy presents to the country is well worth the price of admission

  2. I understand what you are saying..... what annoys me is all the asylum seekers in UK. Which is causing the tax increase and applying for benefits. I lived over there for 4 months shy of 5 years and saw allot of this happening. I am American my husband is British. So we had enough and moved over to the US. I support the Monarchy. I sometimes do not agree with some things but, hey UK is still the strongest country in the world. So they must be doing something right. Good Morning

  3. Why pay for them when they dont do anything anymore would be a different story if they had an active role in parliament but they dont, they dont even oversea laws anymore so why pay for them they have no purpose they should be phased out altogether.

To bad all of yous dont understand that part of the commonwealth taxes still go towards these useless people.

  4. I agree with you.  Even in Canada we have ties to the monarchy and would be much saddened if they did away with it.  Most of us feel this way...there are a few disagreeers.

And yeah, a lotta people wanna see Buckingham Palace and all the stuff about the Queen.  So I'm thinkin the UK does make more in tourism from havin the Queen than the taxes people pay.

  5. omg i totally agree with you i mean it doesnt affect my life but if we didnt have the monachy imagine how much the tourism industry would go down and think about how much charity work soo when people pretest against i think your being totally selfish because think how much they contribute to society

  6. just pay your taxes and be grateful for freedom to do so.

  7. actually most of the money for the civil list comes from the rent from the businesses and houses on the crown estate in central london. that money is paid to the exchequer and then it is distributed to those who take their pay. charles has now stopped taking money as he makes loads from his duchy of cornwall estates.

  8. I agree with payment
