I live with my parents, if I rented a room from them (unofficial rent) as in I throw them €35 a week, will they have to pay tax on it? If so how much and are there any webpages to prove this?

  1. i think if your 17+ you're considered an adult

    and INDEPENDANT,

and if not working you're entitled to a medical card anyway i think. it shouldn't effect your mum really

  2. I think from an economic point of view, this kind of thing is called a transfer payment.  Just like pocket money, or paying a 15 year old to babysit your kids, governments expect some financial exchanges to take place between parties (usually families) that they don't expect to tax as income.  Can you imagine collecting tax return forms where kids have to declare their pocket money as income?  If you live with your parents and are 'paying your way', it's a transfer payment and you won't have to consider paying tax on it.

  3. not if its just to your parents. you said it yourself its "unofficiall"

    i wouldnt worry about it.

  4. don't have to declare it. would you actually make them do that?
