Question:

Paying too much for car insurance?

I drive a '97 Ford Escort, nearly 45,000 miles.

I'm 21.

I have had one ticket (when I was 16 and I got a diversion on that ticket, so I didn't have to pay nor report it to my insurance).

I pay $956 every 6 months for full-coverage.

I'm with Farm Bureau.

Anyone think this is reasonable or should I check out other quotes?

  1. checking othe quote is a great idea, because you can have choices to choose from, weigh the insurance price and the service they provide.

  2. not thats only $159/month. im an 18 yr old female paying 287.month for a 95 civic. the only reason its high is because you are a new driver, if can look for lower quotes than by all means do so.

  3. Hi,  First of all, you have got one factor against you,   you are 21.   In the eyes of insurance companies,  you are considered a inexperienced driver until you are 25.   I would shop around and get quotes from other companies.    I suggest that you only inquire at a agency that is owned by that insurance company,  not at a "independant" insurance comapany,  and most of all,  stay away from these companies that advertise and do business only over the internet.   Besides, at Farm Bureau,  you pay the membership fee along with your premium.   To help you, here are some things that will be looked at when you go or call different companies for a quote.  they are:

    Your age

Your s*x,   (insurance is cheaper for females)

    Your driving record

The kind of vehicle you drive  ( sports cars are higher,  also, have your vehicle's VIN number ready for them when you go to get quotes.)

How you will be using the vehicle  (work, school, pleasure,  if its for school or work,  they will then want to know how far u have to drive to get to your job or school,   one way)

    The area where you live

Futhermore,  I would take a good look at your vehicle and its age in consideration if you really need full coverage.   Your vehicle is 11 years old.   What would the ACV (actual cash value)  be if u got in a wreck in it today.  Older cars total out quicker because of its age,  and it may not be worth carrying full coverage.  Talk to an agent,  they are usually good to help with that.   I would do some reasearch to see if that ticked did not actually go on your driving record.   If it didnt,   please consider yourself lucky.  One important factor to remember,  some companies claim that they are cheaper than others,  do your homework and research on different companies.  there are those who do not give the greatest customer service.  Cheaper is not always better !!!

    Good luck
