Paykan and Trentino BetClic earn success in the quarter-finals of Men’s Club World Championship 2010
The Iranian club Paykan Tehran clashed with the home team of Al-Arabi Doha in the quarterfinal match on Sunday, December 19, 2010. The visitors launched their authority on the hosts and pulled off a victory in the influential match. Paykan Tehran became
the second team from Pool A to qualify for the semi-finals. In Pool B, the defending champions Trentino BetClic were challenged by American Paul Mitchell. Italian team proved to be too good for victory and reserved a slot in the semi-final.
Paykan vs. Al-Arabi Doha 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 25-27, and 25-16)
Al-Arabi’s team entered the court with a lot of attitude. They had enormous support from a large number of local fans. Around 1,165 people were present in the sports arena to witness the classical match. Likewise, Paykan’s squad was fully prepared for the
encounter. The match was opened with strong serves from both sides. Al-Hitmi Said of Al-Arabi Doha received huge applause from the audience for his outstanding jump serves. He took bigger run-ups and supplied plenty of power to his shots. Paykan’s Mousavi
Eraghi Seyed was positioned in a unique receiving position. He tackled the hard-pushes of the Al-Arabi’s hitters and saved many crucial points.
Paykan attacked with Bazargardi Seyed Mehdi and took the score by storm. They picked up a lead in the game and contributed quick points. They maintained their lead and achieved the set-point in the 21st minute of the game. Al-Arabi’s team trailed
behind with 10 points, while the set closed at 15-25.
Paykan attained the right rhythm and tone to make further progress in the game. The combination of prolific cut shots and solid defence, helped them work out great results in second set. Al-Arabi also attacked aggressively and tried to cover the deficit
of loss from the first set. The see-saw battle continued for 23 minutes and ultimately Paykan settled for victory with a 3-point lead. Al-Arabi’s team was flabbergasted with consecutive set defeats in the game.
However, the local crowd backed-up their team and raised their voices to support them. Al-Arabi responded to their followers' uproar with better performances. They paid close attention to their opponents’ hits and saved many points. Meanwhile, Pampel Christian
helped A-Arabi’s score via frequent attack attempts. The home-team jumped on every little opportunity and paved their way to victory in the third set. They score 27-25 and claimed the set.
The fourth set was once again in favour of Paykan. They hit back strongly and stormed Al-Arabi’s half with ground-breaking shots. The home-squad failed to put up with the hard-hitting of Paykan and lost the fourth set with a 9-point margin. Paykan took only
20 minutes to end the fourth set and declared a match victory.
Trentino BetClic vs. Paul Mitchell 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, and 25-20)
The defending champions Trentino BetClic demonstrated great game play while up against Paul Mitchell of the USA. Both teams had done their home work for the important quarter-final match. The match was opened with an exchange of powerful hits. Italy’s Matey
Kaziyski and Tsvetan Sokolov developed good chemistry and added consecutive points in Trentino BetClic’s score. Paul Mitchell’s squad was equally active in throwing speed bombs in the Italian half. Casey Patterson played a vital role in raising his team’s
score. Despite a great effort, Paul Mitchell dropped the first set with a 3-point margin.
Trentino BetClic took full advantage of his victory in the first set and showed no mercy to his opponents in the next set. Paul Mitchell tried different strategies but failed to achieve the desired results. The Italian team proved its endeavour and claimed
the second set with 25-19 on the board.
The third set was a gruelling battle between two contenders of the Club World Championship. Trentino BetClic was in top form and grabbed the third set of the game. Paul Mitchell tried to break their rhythm but the Italians moved up with a better performance.
They secured the third set by posting 25-20 and qualified for the semi-final on Monday, December 20.
