Paykan settles for third position in the Men’s Club World Championship 2010
The Asian Champions Iran’s Paykan Tehran clinched bronze medal victory at the 2010 Club World Championship. They defeated Argentina’s Drean Bolivar in a tight match on Tuesday, 21st December, 2010. The Men’s Club World Championship ran from 15-21
in Doha, Qatar. All the matches were held at the Al-Gharafa Sports Hall. Paykan Tehran exhibited a spectacular game and secured third spot in the ranking. They ousted Argentinean rivals with 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, and 15-13) victory.

Iran had a dramatic start in the match. Drean Bolivar came strong on Iranian team and showed no mercy to them. The first two sets of the game posed a completely different picture of the match. It seemed as Drean Bolivar would easily bag victory after success
in first two sets. Nonetheless, Iranian squad put up a great fight and made a tremendous come back in the game. The last three sets of the game showed a complete dominance of Paykan. They attained perfect rhythm to crush Drean Bolivar and dug up success in
the important third-position match.
First set
Javier Weber’s team opened the match on a very good note. They served strong volleys and worked out early points in the game. Federico Pereyra of Drean Bolivar hit from different angles and contributed quick points. He was equally active in spiking and blocking

Second set
Drean Bolivar became stronger with one set in hand. The Argentinean offensive attack created trouble for Paykan in the second set. Iranian team was desperate to break their tempo and take lead in the game. They played sensibly and managed to make a difference
with 16-12 lead over Drean Bolivar. Seyed Mohammed Mousvi smashed the ball in corners and raised Paykan’s score. In the meanwhile, Drean Bolivar’s team continued with hard-hitting and made a comeback in the game. They hit an equalizer at 19-all and the arena
echoed with happy slogans of Drean Bolivar fans. Lucas Ocampo and Luciano De Decco demonstrated their extraordinary skills and further stretched the gap of points. They took the score to 21-19, while Paykan suffered the damage. Javier Weber’s team used the
lead of two points and hit confident shots. Paykan tried to chase and tied the score at 22-all. Both sides tried to claim the set but luck was on Drean Bolivar’s side. They got the perfect kill to end the second set at 25-23.
Third set
The pumped up Argentinean team started out with convincing shots and built a lead of 11-6 in third set. On the other hand, Iranian players formed new combinations and tried to hinder Drean Bolivar’s performance. They attacked aggressively and scored consecutive
points. However, Drean Bolivar remained one step ahead in the game. They progressed with better score of 16-15 and 21-19. It was the turning point for Paykan’s team as Arash Kamlvand worked out good points. The score was tied at 22-22, which created a lot
of suspense in the match. Paykan Tehran made decisive move and scored back-to-back points. For the first time in match, Iranian fans got the chance to celebrate the set victory of their team. Paykan declared third set victory with a score 25-23.
Fourth Set
Success in third set restored Iranian players’ confidence and enabled them to cover the deficit of previous sets. They remained consistent in producing prolific shots and captured the fourth set as well. Drean Bolivar received 20-25 defeat in fourth set.
Final set
The game entered the15-point golden set. Iran was charged up with high spirits after two sets’ victory. They kept the same momentum and pulled off victory in final set of the game. Finally, the five set thriller ended in Paykan’s favour and they settled
for third position in the Club World Championship.
