  1. If you have a PayPal balance and when you pay for an item, you choose to pay with your PayPal balance and not another form of payment, it will not appear on your credit card bill. It won't be on the credit card because you aren't charging the purchase - you are using available funds. (This assumes you have enough available funds to cover the purchase.)

When you pay for an item with PayPal, you can choose whether you want to use available funds, charge it, or have it taken out of a bank account.

  2. you get the whole $50

  3. Any time you dispute any charge on your credit card statement, the credit card company will credit you the amt in dispute, while it is being researched.

The credit card company will then contact PayPal or whatever company submitted the payment in dispute asking them to send proof of the charge.  Usually they have 10 days from receipt of the letter to submit the requested info.

If they fail to send the proof of charge, then you get to keep the money.  If they do send the proof, then your credit card company will add the purchase back to your credit card account.

A lot of people do this at big chain restaurants that take many thousands by credit card every day.  These big restaurants won't take the time to find their copy of your charge to submit for proof.  So they get to keep the $.
