  1. Some banks have dozens (and others have hundreds) of routing numbers due to bank mergers.  For example my bank was bought out serveral time under new names and the routing number did not change.  So someone else with an account at that bank might not have the same routing number unless it was at the same branch when the bank name was the same.

For a checking account do NOT use the routing number from a deposit slip, that is an internal number (I discovered that when attempting to set up direct deposit).

Best bet is to call or stop in at your bank.  I never understand why some people have no checks for their checking account, but that is probably why overdraft fees are so profitable for banks (not keeping track of debit card use).

  2. A deposit or withdrawal slip should help you.  If not, go to your bank and ask them for the routing number.  If you call them, you might have to be asked a few security questions for identification.  If you go there, you might be asked for one or two forms of identification.

  3. Call your bank.  You can try checking the bank's website but that probably won't work.  Most banks have several different routing numbers.  Didn't you ever have checks?  Can you look at an old copy?

Do not use a routing number on a deposit slip as those are internal numbers for the bank, not a routing number.

  4. A routing number isn't unique to one account or even one branch of a bank. Each bank has a routing number that is used for all accounts at that bank. Thus, routing numbers for banks aren't very hard to come by, try asking a friend or relative that has the same bank as you to give you that info.

If that doesn't work you can usually find the routing number on the internet. Try searching google for "xxxx routing number" xxxx being the name of your bank!

  5. do u have a deposit slip, or even better duplicate carbons?
