  1. It's never a good idea to lie to a site.

I don't understand why you didn't put it down as your name and let him use it ^o)

Who knows whether they'll keep it, it's unlikely they will decide to keep it.

As for Ebay, just go to the bootsale and sell items

    Buy from the shop :D

  2. They obviously know that whoever the account is registered to is not 18, thats why theyve sent this e,mail. and obviously you cant provide id to prove his age either. You need to talk to them!!!

  3. Whillikers.  This is the EXACT wording of SPOOF and PHISHING email.  For goodness sake, DON'T RESPOND!!!!!  Forward it and anything that resembles it to spoof@paypal.com and let THEM tell you whether it is real.  It is not, but that's just my humble observation, having received at least 50 of these annually for the past 7 years.

  4. I'm not sure you realise quite how serious this is - it's fraud, plain & simple. Good luck!

It's NOT a spoof or phishing email, that's why it tells you to log into the url manually rather than through a link in the email.

  5. Be very suspicious with e-mails like this, if it did not start with your full name, it will be fraud.

If in any doubt forward it to: spoof@paypal.com

They will e-mail you back with a report as to whether it is fake or not.

Do this now and never click on a link before checking otherwise somebody could hijack your Paypal account and clear any funds in credit.

  6. I am pretty sure it would be illegal for them to keep moey that isnt theirs. That message looks like it is just asking for verifaction since it is a new account which may be as simple as verifying an e-mail address so they know you are real and not some infiltrating bot. Log in, see what happens and dont be so paranoid ;)

  7. This doesn't look like a spoof

    a) because it asks you to manually enter the normal PayPal URL (spoofs generally ask you to click on links within the message)

    b) it's asking you/your brother to go to the Resolution Centre, after you've logged in, to deal with the matter

If unsure, you can forward the email to

spoof@paypal.com (you can also find this address on the PayPal help pages)

and they'll reply within a day or so to let you know if it's genuine.

The problem most likely, as you say, is that your brother is too young to hold a PayPal account, but you'll find out the actual reason when you get to the Resolution Centre (as mentioned in the email).

PP asking for proof of identity is usual when there's been a problem of some kind with an account.

As to what they'll do with the money, you'll find out when you log into the Resolution Centre (access by logging onto PP, then you'll find it under the My Account tab) and get the matter resolved.
