Pc question: Connecting a usb keyboard?

hi

My old keyboard (the one that came with my pc) recently broke and so i purchased a usb keyboard to plug into the power unit part of my pc. I plugged it into the unit and heard the lub-dub sound that comes when you add a peripheral device.

The keyboard however doesnt work and i wanted to ask anyone who knows how i might be able to make the keyboard operational. I run Windows Vista.

I typed this message using onscreen keyboard.....how frustrating.

No keys work when pressed, except for power and sleep. I don't understand why these work but no other.

Because it is a USB keyboard, i don't think there would be a driver to install (no disc came with the keyboard anyway).

Isn't it just plug and play?

Can anyone help?

  1. it should connect ok usb usualy no problem , just a thought though have you got upnp enabled in windows components ?

  2. If the plug and play is activated then try using a different USB input to make your keyboard function.

  3. First, try the device manager. You don't have to do anything in the BIOS. That other guy is wrong, that's a good way to s***w up your PC. If the device manager fails, return it for a new one.

  4. ya ive got one it just plays,,,, you could on in control panel and add new hardware ,,hope that helps

  5. I would take it back to the shop? MAYBE it's not vista compatible (but i'm not sure if keyboards need to be compatible)

  6. Go to device manager > expand on 'Mice and other pointing devices' > right click on PS/2 > scan for hardware changes..this will re-locate where the k/board is plugged in

  7. Try turning off your computer and then turn it back on with the keyboard plugged in. If this doesn't work, add some more details.

  8. Do you have it enabled in the BIOS?

  9. must be a driver problem
