Pcguard and startup group and c++?

I recently clean installed XPpro with SP2 and then pcguard. I found 2 things had gone wrong - there were error messages in 'alerts' for sidebyside (loads of them) and in help and support, tools, my computer info, view a list of microsoft software....., in the startup group there are nearly 2000 items listed! exe dll and ocx from the i386 folder maybe.

Is this normal for pcguard and how can I stop it?

Aside from that it is working OK and downloads updates automatically about 4 times a day.
