Peace At Last brings up maiden victory in German 2,000 Guineas – Horseracing News
Peace At Last brought up his maiden victory by claiming the Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen - German 2,000 Guineas (Group 2) at Cologne in Germany on Monday, May 20, 2013.
The three-year-old colt entered the competition with a starting price of 29 to 1 and he was up against some extremely good stallions. Therefore, the punters did not show much confidence in him and risked lesser
bets on him compared to others.
However, the young challenger proved his critics wrong and managed to finish on top of the table by over one length. He was helped by the ground conditions, which had been affected by rain.
The going was described as soft by the organisers, which caused problems for some of the top runners. On the other hand, this also proved to be an opportunity for stallions like Peace At Last, who would have
suffered under normal circumstances.
The Irish colt did not get an ideal start to the race, as he was held up by some of the other challengers after the traps were opened. Despite that, he showed confidence and kept on gaining places until he got
into the lead. He led the final 150 yards, as no one was able to make an impression on him in the end.
This was Peace At Last’s seventh outing overall and he had been unable to taste victory before in his career. However, he managed to break the shackles at Cologne, which pleased his owner Guy Heald.
On the other hand, the race favourite stallion Law Enforcement failed to meet the expectations of his team, as he ended up way down in ninth place. He has had a terrible start to the 2013 season, which is a huge
concern for his trainer Richard Hannon.
Last year, the Irish colt had a dream start to his career, winning four races out of the five he took part in. He was expected to be amongst the top performers this year, but the situation seems to be going out
of his control at the moment. He has already failed twice in the ongoing season, which means that he needs to work hard on his form and fitness before going into the next event.
