  1. I was in the Peace Corps and the website is an excellent resource for you.  I can tell you that although the minimum age is 18 the PC has some pretty strict standards for entry, such as about 95% of volunteers have undergraduate degrees.  If you don't have a degree you have to show some major marketable skills in order to be invited to serve.  As for Europe, the PC is in several Eastern European countries such as Romania which is a beautiful place.  I should also mention that you don't get to pick where you go - you can state a preference for an area of the world but then they have to invite you to serve there.  If you are serious about the PC you should check out the site to see all of the entry requirements - it took me almost a year to get in!  I think it is a great opportunity to see the world as it really is, learn a new language and culture and of course it provides for reduced-cost graduate school and a great resume line.  Good luck!

  2. You are thinking of United Nations PEACE KEEPING forces. The USA contributes troops to them. So does Canada, Sweden and many other countries. They are soldiers who go in and try to keep the two sides on a civil war from killing each other. You'd have to go into the army first, learn to be a decent soldier, then volunteer.

The Peace Corps is the one that sends English teachers to upriver schools.

  3. I was in the Peace Corps as well, and served in Europe (Estonia) for two years.  PC is in Romania, as garrison wrote.  In fact everything that garrison wrote is spot on.  Go to the Peace Corps web site.  It took me almost a year and a half before I was accepted.

  4. Dade, your chances at which posts the Peace Corps has change dramatically depending on your skills. If you speak no languages but English and have no needed job skills, they'll just use you where they can use you.

If placement in Europe is important, start learning the language(s) now. That's a huge factor in placement.

I don't know that the Peace Corps places people in Northern Ireland. Do you?

  5. Humm... everyone I know who has been in the Peace Corps has had at the minimum a COLLEGE DEGREE.. so, unless things have changed... and you are on a fast track course in school... you won't be eligible for the Peace Corps until you finish another 4 years of school after High School

  6. Northern Ireland !! conflict !!?? theres none here buddy !! Im Irish !! Kosovo is in Europe, but Im afraid apart from that there is not much else you can do! try the Lebanon its not Europe but its on the edge of Europe near Turkey. But its dangerous so be carfeul !
