Peace corps......?

My brother is applying to join for the peace corps. I hope he gets accepted because he can do a lot of good. He wants to go to Africia. My mom is worried. My brother has not been accepted yet. She calls me crying and tells me she wakes up crying. My brother is white also so he will stick out but he wants to help the ones that want it. And I'm proud of him. To add to that my mom also has a granddaughter that may join the peace corps; my daughter. I'm nervous but proud of them both. Is there anyone that has gone through this? I have tried to help her but she just cries. Any advice or is there any sites that I can go to for support on loved ones in the peace corps? I have looked but can't find any. Thanks.

  1. I'm heading for Mali with the Peace Corps in three weeks.  Having been to various parts of Africa many times before I can tell you that I've never felt like I was in danger.  Africans don't act mean towards you for being white.  The only thing I got was them asking for money because many assume that since you are white and American you are rich.  Tell your mother that Africa isn't what many people think it is.  Plus the Peace Corps wouldn't send people to places where it's unsafe.  It's as unsafe as living where ever you live.  Any place can be dangerous.

  2. Perhaps this is a calling for you to create one.
