Peacemaker prevails in Sittingbourne Puppies
Peacemaker cruised to an easy victory in the Sittingbourne Puppies, held at Sittingbourne on Sunday, June 10th. Despite a bumped run up, J. Millard’s charge took a decent lead at the first bend and defeated his rivals quite comfortably.
With the second best odds of 5 to 2, the blue dog started off the affair from the red box. It was a messy start for everyone, but Peacemaker kept his cool to fish himself out of the hot waters.
After establishing his dominance at the first bend, Daves Mentor’s son made no mistake, retaining his advantage till the winning post. He covered the distance of 480 metres in 29.35 seconds, notching up the number one position by two and a half lengths.
Holdem Impact also did a terrific job despite a bumped run up. K. Findlay’s trainee beat Mikos Katie by ½ a length to ensure the runner-up place.
Hollyoak Mad Sam, who was 13-8 favourite, could not regain his confidence after the initial mess and despite an early pace, the black dog was in no position to make things tricky for the leaders. Consequently, he finished second last on the chart.
Sittingbourne Hurdles was another £200 event on Sunday. The 480 metres race saw Johnnys Way performing to his high reputation and finishing on top of the table.
The 11-8 favourite led the proceedings all the way through, stopping the clock in 29.55 seconds. Despite an excellent work early on, Farloe Bowser failed to trouble the champion hound and fell second by 6¼ lengths. Full House was third in the list.
The venue also hosted the opening round of Sittingbourne Super Standard. The action began with the first heat, which was eventually won by Droopys Trump.
J. Daly’s black dog secured the top place by three lengths. Broadway Fly was expected to finish second, but Goodview Ted outpaced him by a head’s distance to grab the runner-up spot.
Heat 2 was won by Bandicoot Ripley, who covered 500 metres in 30.46 seconds. Kiltomey Simba surprisingly finished second whereas the third position went to Verdun Sunset.
The 4-5 favourite, Coolavanny John, failed to make an impact and finished fifth in the list. After getting crowded at the first bend, the black dog was in no position to catch his rivals.
