Peacemakers Invitational Volleyball tournament moved because of Antigua and Barbuda schedule
The Peacemakers Invitational Volleyball tournament has been rescheduled to take place in September instead of next month. The decision was announced recently in a press conference. The reason that was given by the Public Relations Officer of Antigua & Barbuda
Volleyball Association, Jose Otto, was that the teams of Antigua and Barbuda would not be able to take part if it was held in July. This is because they experienced financial restrains and ABVA is willing to give the event another month before the teams are
ready to be active in the event.
Otto gave the news about the delay in the following statement: “The invitational is pushed back to September. It is not happening in July. It’s happening in September. I am sure if this was happening in July, we wouldn’t be able to attend. But the host country
really wants Antigua to be there and I think that may be part of why it is being set back as well. It’s been pushed back to September 2nd to 4th.”
The nation’s women’s and men’s team both are interested in taking part in the Invitational Games that take place on an annual basis but they lack the EC $16,000 necessary to take part in the event.
Otto also made it known that ABVA is considering sending both male as well as the female teams to the event in French St Martin. A discussion was held on Monday that explored the costs involved in the entire process. The bulk of the price tag is the expenses
that will be incurred on airfare and the accommodations of the athletes. The ABVA is still not positive whether it would be able to generate that amount of money to enable its male and female volleyball teams to be a part of the prestigious tournament.
It is going to be a major setback for both the male and female teams as they have been putting their hearts and souls in the practice sessions. The preparations that the teams have been doing have been going on for months and they are looking forward to
take part in the event.
