Has anyone tried growing peach or plum trees from seeds? Do I have to take them out of the husk/shell thing before I plant them? Can I start out by planting them in a plastic cup until they sprout? Any tips? Thanks

  1. You can grow them, the peach will need to be split.  The fruit however may not be as good as the one you ate to get the seed.  Normally fruit that is sold comes from trees that have been cloned (grafted).

You will probably be happier buying the type of fruit tree you want and planting it, not to mention getting fruit 2 years earlier.

  2. You are better buying new seedlings. Most of the varieties are sold under license. This means you can grow the seeds ok,but they are sterile, and won't fruit.

  3. Do not open the seed. Keep the seed in moist peat moss.  Not to wet though.  Keep it in the refrigerator for a few months.  Then plant it.

This seed will make a tree but the fruit may not be good.  Peach trees are made by budding.  "One bud from a tree you want is put on a rootstock."
