Can a female peacock lay eggs without having to couple up with another male peacock, or can they just lay eggs on their own like regular hens/chickens do? Please give me a long answer, it'll help me understand. Like how they can do it and stuff because I'm a little confused... don't give me long links. I want YOU to explain it, it's easier for me to understand directly! 10 pts for the best and thorough answer!!! =]

  1. There is no possible way for the female peacock's eggs to be fertile if there is no male around. I have had peafowl a couple of times, I have never had a hen lay without the presence the peacock to help her into breeding condition. They need higher protein food, longer daylight hours, the peacock screaming for her and his display of his tail feathers.  You need to learn to not be do demanding about how the information comes to you. If  you have comprehension problems you just need to read it twice. You seem to know next to nothing so if you don't see the information first hand then how are you going to sift through it? How will you know if the information is right or wrong? I have seen some crazy stupid information get passed along on this forum. It isn't any easier to understand if I print it out or if some one else prints it out. You sound to lazy to look it up  to me.

  2. they are like chickens as in they can lay eggs with out a male. however peacocks are not like chickens personality wise...I would say they are a little more like gunea hens..loud!

now to explain about egg laying..all birds can lay an egg with out a male but the egg is not fertal so it won't hatch with out the male it only will rot. It is very intresting though.....but also keep in mind...with people females have eggs too..you may not think of it as an egg but it is every time you have your cycle there is an egg now think about it...if you don't have s*x what happens? the egg goes out and you start the cycle again but if you were with a man the egg produces a baby...so our egg is internal we can't see it...with birds the egg comes out and you see it thats the biggest diffrence that I can see...I hope this helps you understand.

  3. Yes they will lay eggs. They of course will be infertile though. They will not lay as many as chicken  and they will only lay some time between February and July. My peahen is all on her own and has laid one egg every 4-5 days for the past 2 months. Hope that answers your question :-)

  4. YES!  PEACOCKS ARE LIKE CHICKENS, THEY CAN LAY AN EGG WITHOUT BEING STIMULATED BY A MALE BIRD BUT THEY WILL USUALLY ONLY LAY TWO TO FIVE EGGS,NOT LIKE A CHICKEN WHO WILL KEEP LAYING THEM. THEY WILL DO THIS IN THE SPRING OR EARLY SUMMER MONTHS, BUT THE EGG WILL ONLY BE GOOD FOR EATING IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT! THE BIRD ITSELF TASTE LIKE TURKEY MORE THAN CHICKEN, THE EGG IS ALSO MORE ON THE TURKEY CONSISTENCY, GREAT FOR BAKING WITH!
