Question:

Peak oil? Earth? Life?

What happens when our oil runs dry? Some believe that it will be mass chaos, and civilization will seize to exist, others say that nothing will change and we'll just find another source of energy. No matter what, the earth WILL eventually run out, right? So what happens? Should i be stocking up on MRE's and other survival supplies, or should i be sitting at home watching some family guy?

  1. Yes, we will run "low" on oil (and coal).  Probably not run out but for all intents and purposes we will run out.  That will probably happen within the next 500 to 1,000 years.

By that time it won't matter.  Even today we have nuclear power and soon we should have fusion power (see link below).  We will be better at using solar power and hopefully we will use less power per person.  We will have probably branched out to Mars and may even have terra-formed Venus.  One thousand years is a long time.

  2. LOL Kristina. Don,t sweat it. Life won,t cease to exist if oil runs out and that,s highly unlikely. Gas guzzling cars are going to be a thing of the past as new technology emerges. Prices are going to go up so we have to learn to adjust. Maybe slow down our life styles and become more cost concieous and be smart about how we travel. Relaxxxxxx.

  3. Oil will not really run out, it will just get prohibitively expensive to use. People will develop alternatives, the question is how fast that will happen.  I think you have a valid question, and I do think it will happen over the next 50 years (maybe less)

  4. Oil MAY someday run out, but not in our lifetime. As it gets more expensive, more research will be done with alternative fuels. As oil continues to get more scarce and expensive, the same alternatives will be more cost-effective.

Watch Family Guy and relax, just be more conscious of what you can do to help (wind farm, recycling, electric/hybrid car, etc.)
