Peanut shells????

erm, can someone give me more info on peanut shells, (you know, shells on peanuts...), what's its composition, what's it for, is it edible, you know that kinda stuff? i've been all over the net and i can't seem to find anything... i need it for my thesis... your help would be greatly appreciated..
