Question:

Pearl Gourami Help??????

I am planning on putting a pearl gourami in my 46 gallon tank. I have a rena canister filter with a spray bar. I placed the spray bar at the top of my aquarium because that was recommended. It agitates the top of the water - which can be good.

Pearl gouramis tend to stay at the top of the aquarium, so I was wondering if he would be okay with all the water movement?

Also, they like plants near the top of the water, so what kinds of beginner plants would you suggest?

  1. The water movement won't be a problem as long as it's not so strong that it pushes the fish around.  If it is too strong, you can put a loose piece of pantyhose over the output to deaden the flow.  For plants, lilies are VERY easy and will produce lily pads perfect for Gouramis to hide under.  Water Sprite, Hornwort, Anacharis/Elodea, Duckweed (can be VERY invasive) and similar plants are great choices for floaters.

Bristlenose will eat plants if they get hungry, but daily feedings with fresh vegetables will slow their progress.

  2. all fish will eat plants try putting in the odd garden pea at night time every 2-3 days that should help live plants a little

  3. you're gourami won't mind the water movement as for plants you have many options look at this sight http://www.freshwateraquariumplants.com/... ,and all plecos eat live plants but probably won't eat floating plants.
