Pearl Ice having big chance in Fly London Southend To Barcelona Handicap at Newmarket
Some big names are up for the challenge at Newmarket, but Pearl Ice is in great shape to bang all of them in Fly London Southend To Barcelona Handicap, taking place on Saturday, June 09, 2012. The 4-year-old’s recent efforts suggest that he is in fine form
at the moment, making the best use of his extraordinary skills.
After a break of more than half a year, Pearl Ice made his comeback with a not-so-impressive effort. At the start of last month, Doncaster’s audience saw him getting weakened and eventually finishing 13th in the freebets.co.uk Handicap.
Despite failing to make an impact on his return, the dashing runner did not lose his determination and demonstrated a wonderful act in the next two outings. After sealing the runner-up place at Thirsk, David Barron’s trainee perpetuated his good work to
ensure the top prize at Ripon earlier this month.
In the class-3 Directors Cup Handicap Stakes, Pearl Ice secured the first rank by 2¾ lengths. After two tremendous performances, the bay colt is flying high at the moment and therefore, his opponents would find it difficult to fancy their chances.
Among his confirmed rivals are: Es Que Love, Mirza, Irish Heartbeat, Shropshire, Swiss Cross, Piazza San Pietro, Swiss Franc, El Viento, High Standing, Medicean Man and Breathless Kiss. The 6-furlong event holds a cash prize of £19,407, which will be given
to the champion runner.
On the other hand, Es Que Love has been unlucky since clinching two back-to-back triumphs in April. After finishing fourth at York, Mark Johnston’s trainee improved his work to some extent, locking the runner-up place last time out.
The class 1 Blue Square Sandy Lane Stakes saw him missing the top prize only by a neck’s distance. Shropshire is a dangerous runner, but a recent poor effort would have dented his confidence terribly. Similar is the case with Mirza.
There are plenty of powerful runners in the line-up, but Pearl Ice looks by far the most fascinating of them. Following a marvellous success, he has moved to the upper class and this should help him boost up his confidence today. We wish the best of luck
to everyone.
