Pearl Secret out of the season with splint bone fracture – Horseracing news
Pearl Secret will not be seen in action during this season anymore after suffering a rare splint bone fracture in his foreleg.
The talented stallion was looking in very good form and was amongst the favourites to claim the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but he cannot take part in the important competition now.
Trainer David Barron was really sad after getting the news about his challenger. He claimed, “He did his final piece of work before Goodwood on Friday and was in great shape. I could not have been happier with him. He pulled out
perfectly sound on Saturday and was fine when we put him on the walker - we can only assume the injury occurred while he was on it.”
He went onto say that this was the first time he heard about such an injury and it was disappointing that Pearl Secret would not be able to go out at Goodwood. He had a pretty decent time in his most recent race and could have
been dominant in the upcoming event.
According to Barron, “He ran such a blinder at Royal Ascot to finish a close third in a Group 1 on his first run of the season. Everyone involved has been so patient in allowing the horse to mature and develop. Among the many top
sprinters I have trained he is without doubt the quickest.”
The four-year-old colt started off his career back in 2011 and was rated as one of the favourites to succeed straightaway because of his strong pedigree. Although there were some decent horses up against him, he made them look
ordinary and won by a comfortable distance in the end.
This was the only appearance for Pearl Secret that year. He took part in four races the following season and managed to win the first three of them, but disappointed in the last one.
However, that did not stop him from appearing at Royal Ascot, where he simply impressed one and all with a third place finish. His camp would have been looking forward to some victories before the end of the year, but they will
have to wait for a long time now.
