Question:

Pedestrian Problems?

Within the last 6 months, I've been noticing an increasing number of kids walking down the center of residential streets in lower income neighborhoods, despite decent sidewalks.

It's happened near my home, near the store where I buy beer, and near my office. Did I miss a memo? At what point did it become cool to frustrate drivers and give the finger to them when they honked or otherwise tried to get safely around the kids? I thought cyclists were bad enough, teens wandering down the street with their pants completely off their butts and giving me the finger seems a little uncalled for.

Reverse racism, jealousy becuase I have a car and they don't, is it getting out of hand? Anyone else noticed or can shed light on the original question?

  1. It's called "Darwinism."  Eventually, they'll come across that drunk truck driver and find themselves in a situation similar to this guy: http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/ca...

  2. It's not just these kids. It's a lot of people. I have noticed a huge increase in the number of people who step off the curb into a crosswalk when the red hand is showing on the signal, they walk out into busy parking lots expecting me to stop even if there is no crosswalk, the kids refuse to get out of the street when they are playing, bicyclists run red lights and obstruct traffic, and they all do it with such an attitude. They stare you down, or they act like they don't see you. They also slow down if they see you coming. I have even seen people who let their kids run into the path of cars in crosswalks and parking lots ahead of them instead of holding their kid's hand and keeping them close. Part of it, and I believe it is a major factor, is that these jackholes know that if you even tap them with your car they can sue you. That's why they're so bold. It seems to be that this problem in Southern California happens along racial lines. It's almost always the Mexicans. However, I have also seen homeless people try to get themselves hit. Again, they need the money, so they're willing to fake an injury, or sacrifice themselves to self-inflict a real injury. I have found that my attitude towards pedestrians has changed. I am not the least bit interested in protecting them, nor do I care if they are injured or killed. I am, however, keenly interested in not hitting them for the simple, solitary  reason that if I do, I will be paying them for the rest of my life. It's a shame that a 3,000 pound car is at the mercy of a money-hungry pedestrian who is on the take, but that's the reality in a world where more and more behavior every day is dictated by selfishness.

  3. they are stupid. im not racist though. they are taking advantage of the fact that no matter how you hit them or why, its your fault.

  4. I agree with "Me Again" analysis.

Some folks will end up dead right, but these folks don't have a right of way.

"chip on the shoulder" is probably an adequate thing to say.  There is a recession on, and that does bring out the worst in some people.

  5. try to run over them, you,ll find they are faster than you thought, if they are stupid enough to play in the road when i start my car then they are fair game, don,t have time for stupid people,  plus i figure i would help nature weed out the week and stupid that we allow to survive.
