  1. Animal Rights n**i propaganda is all that is.  How would it behoove a responsible breeder and show exhibitor to breed unsound, unhealthy dogs?  Pure BS in a snow cone to make uninformed people lap it up.

  2. Amen Basset!

  3. <-----  Stands and applauds!!

It is about time someone pulled the covers off of some "reputable breeders" who are too darned lazy to make sure they are getting new blood in their lines! IMHO, they are as bad or worse than the BYBs. They certainly have access to other great dogs, but heaven forbid they pony up a stud fee to POL so that genes can be distributed.

  4. I call BS

  5. Not me, same old chestnuts "exposed" again.

  6. I'm surprised the BBC have managed to get this aired, the negative affects of inbreeding/linebreeding has been a closely guarded secret for a long time now. Hats off to the BBC. It seems the Kennel Club are spitting feathers.

  7. I'm glad you posted this, I was gona mention it, but I live abroad and can't watch it anyway as I don't have access to UK progs :(

Besides, last time I posted my thoughts on pedigree breeding here a few days ago I was openly chastised and insulted by another user, I'm afraid to mention such things any more!!

Hope it's worth the agony of watching, I'm sure there are many many good breeders out there who would never do such awful things, but while there are still those that do, something should be done about it.

  8. Sounds like it could be interesting to watch, although I don't have television so I guess I'll miss it! What many of these things don't recognise is the difference between the backyard breeders/puppymills and legitimate, responsible breeders. Where one group tries to breed out these faults and problems as much as is possible within the breed the other group breeds whoever to whoever indiscriminately, and all of these dogs are considered "pedigree'd"

Personally, I don't think of them as all being purebred, I consider BYB and puppymill dogs to be mutts with certain specific characteristics and I would rather have a mutt without guaranteed health problems.

  9. I won't bother.

The UK promotes genetic health far more than the AKC does, although I admit that living on a large continent without quarantine laws does have its advantages.

I do love, however, that the quoted "scientist" in the article comparing breeding dogs to human reproduction. That viewpoint coming from man of science is suspect at best, and pathetic at worst.

ADD: The KC's response to this "expose", from the site Anwen supplied:

    This smacks of PeTA.

  10. Well, I'll be watching.

I'm more than a little concerned to hear that Emma Milne is featured, which leads me to wonder whether it might be sensationalist rubbish.

On the other hand, I'll reserve judgement on the programme until I've actually watched it.

  11. Probably not, although I might record it.

  12. Any good breeder is trying to eliminate the problems plaguing their breed - many even have started genetic databases to keep track of what has and hasn't popped up the breeding stock withing the breed's national club

This is just what mutt breeders are looking to hear so that an further say mutts are healthier.

If you care about your breed you are doing whatever you can to prevent any disorders in your bloodline that includes not inbreeding limited line breeding(if at all) and only including the best from other lines.

  13. What a load of c**p!

  14. Aww Poor Things
