Pedro Alvarez helps Pittsburgh Pirates snap their losing streak – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates humiliated the New York Mets 10-6 at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, September 25 in second game of their four match series.
Mets secured a comfortable 6-2 win in series opener and they were looking to continue their excellent work in Game 2 of the series as well but the Pirates had other ideas.
Showing great fighting abilities and mental toughness, Clint Hurdle and his men outclassed their opponents in finer details of the game to level the four game series 1-1. Pirates’ batting line-up deserves a lot of credit for the way they absorbed pressure
in a game that was played on a highly competitive note.
First baseman Gaby Sanchez and third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit back-to-back home-runs to provide Pittsburgh with the kind of start they were hoping for. Overall, Alvarez drove in four runs to play a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash. Garrett
Jones also made his presence felt with a two run home-run in the ninth. He put in a good performance with the bat and helped the Pirates dominate the Mets.
"Any time I can hit a home run at home, it's always special," Alvarez said in a post game interview.
"I'm not comfortable talking about something individual like this when we've had our struggles in the second half, not having done what all of us thought we were capable of doing," said Mets’ slugger David Wright, who hit his 20th home-run of
the season. "But I'll enjoy it at some point. Probably not tonight."
Starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez had another great outing as he allowed just four hits and three runs in six innings to grab his 12th win of the season. Relief pitchers Chris Resop, Jared Hughes, Jason Grilli and Joel Hanrahan also showed great
throwing skills to keep Mets on the defensive.
Mets’ starter Collin McHugh paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, giving up five hits and seven runs in just over one inning to take his third straight loss this season. Closer Jon Rauch also struggled to control the flow of runs as he allowed
two runs on two hits in the ninth.
