Pedro Ciriaco shines as Boston Red Sox overcomes Kansas City Royals 8-6 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox used their home conditions brilliantly to rout the Kansas City Royals 8-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 26 in third game of their four match series.
It was an amazing game of baseball as momentum shifted one way to the other but it was the Red Sox who handled their nerves superbly to take a 2-1 series lead. Boston edged Kansas City 4-3 in series opener but they were overpowered by the Royals in Game
2. Credit should be given to them for finding their lost form just at the right time.
Red Sox have struggled to give consistent results throughout this season and perhaps that is the reason they are placed fourth on the American League East Division standings table. It will be interesting to see if they end the season on a positive note to
give their fans something to be happy about.
"That's the mark of a team that battles, those two-out rallies," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "I don't know if I'd rather have bases loaded with no outs or bases loaded and two outs. We seem to score more runs. We had an opportunity to score a lot more
there."
Starting pitcher Felix Doubront used his fastballs and slider very effectively, giving up just four runs in five innings while striking-out seven batters. Relief pitcher Mark Melancon pitched the scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.
"I'm glad I'm here. It's one of the best atmospheres in baseball," said James Loney who got his first hit after coming into Boston. "It felt good getting that opportunity, having a chance to deliver. I just want to keep that up."
Cody Ross earned an RBI single to left in the first to put Red Sox on the board. Mike Aviles added a double to left in the second to double the lead to 2-0.
Rookie Pedro Ciriaco had another excellent game as he homered to left in the fifth to keep his side in the hunt. Scott Podsednik, Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia drove in crucial runs to take Red Sox to a decisive victory.
