Pedro Diaz to train Miguel Cotto against Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Boxing news
Cuban trainer Pedro Diaz arrived in Puerto Rico in order to start training sessions with Miguel Cotto for his upcoming bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. scheduled for May 5, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Vegas.
Pedro Diaz trained Miguel Cotto against Antonio Margarito, which Cotto won convincingly. It was the first time the world saw Cotto hitting hard yet defending himself wisely. According to Cotto, all credit for his performance goes to his trainer Diaz for
his performance against Margarito. Anyone who saw Cotto’s recent fight against Margarito would know the changes in his fighting style he was exhibiting and the strategy he was working on.
Since Cotto has not trained for nearly three months, he needs to get started as soon as possible to prepare for the upcoming bout. This time his opponent is much tougher than Margarito; it is Mayweather, the undefeated champion.
According to some analysts, Cotto needs to work on his stamina the most since he often exhausts by the 7th or 8th round. In most of his high-profile bouts, Cotto has shown signs of exhaustion by the final rounds, especially in fights against Margarito, Shane
Mosley, Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao.
Keeping in mind the fact that Mayweather is a speedy fighter with enough stamina and endurance to last until the end, it is important for Cotto to improve this particular minus point of his. In addition, Mayweather will definitely try to take the utmost
advantage of Cotto’s weakness.
If Cotto wants to emerge victorious against Mayweather, he needs to upgrade his skills and his endurance level. He still has three more months to train and bring it up to the mark. Mayweather is a fierce fighter and he has remained unbeaten, so Cotto should
not take this lightly.
Cotto previously claimed that he feels he is out of practice and he needs to start training as soon as possible. If that truly is the case, then it is an absolute must for Cotto to start with it right away since Mayweather is not a light opponent to go head
to head with mediocre training.
