Pedro Guevara all set to defend win streak, title against Jose Guadalupe Martinez – Boxing news
Pedro Guevara, the NABF light flyweight champion, will defend his title against Jose Guadalupe Martinez, the former WBC Continental Americas light flyweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on May 19, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view put forth by Erik Morales of Box Latino and the night will be headlined by the much anticipated WBC United States (USNBC) super bantamweight title bout between Oscar Gonzalez and Giovanni Caro.
The ring for the showdown will be set up at Monumental Plaza de Toros situated in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico and the pay-per-view will be televised live on Mexico’s Televisa channel.
Pedro and Jose recently met at a pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming bout. Pedro has been in a total 18 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak.
He has never lost even a single bout and has collected 13 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold. The Mexican proud has collected just one draw decision and is on a three-bout win streak since his last draw decision to Mario Rodriguez.
Also known as ‘Jibran’, Pedro is coming from a convincing second round knockout win over Patricio Camacho. His opponent, Jose, is making a comeback after the time lapse of 16 months.
Martinez has been in a total 19 bouts and emerged victorious in 13. Interestingly, he has collected all of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold. Despite the fact that Jose is an impressive knockout specialist, Martinez is going through a bad phase
of his career as he has collected four losses in his last five bouts and just one win.
Pedro, knowing that his opponent has a tarnished resume as compared to him, still showed respect and stated, “I know that this Saturday I will have a challenge since Martinez is a fighter with a lot of wins and experience. He has four more years as a professional
fighter than I do. I am looking for bigger and better things but I know I have to win this fight Saturday night.”
Martinez, the former Mexico light flyweight champion, also admitted the importance of the bout and commented, “I am coming in with the will to win. I know that I am going against an undefeated fighter and that is why I am expecting a great fight Saturday
night. ”
The bout will be a test for Pedro as Martinez is in the mood to make a huge comeback. The only thing halting Jose’s movement towards grabbing the NABF title is Pedro. The battle will be a toe-to-toe one and might end soon if Martinez opts for an early knockout
win.
