Pedro Rodriguez gives himself a “seven or eight”
Barcelona faced Levante at home on 2nd January, but without their main striker Lionel Messi. However, their young and talented Spanish striker Pedro Rodriguez made sure that they do not miss out on the Argentinean maestro
as he took the responsibility in terms of goal scoring. The Barcelona youngster found the back of the net twice to put the score line 2-1 in the home team’s favour.
Pedro Rodriguez performed for the full 96 minutes while playing against Levante. It was Barcelona’s first game of the year and Pedro was all ready to give his best to the team. Pedro Rodriguez shot the ball towards the goal four
times and managed to find the target thrice. One of his shots found the woodwork while two of them found the back of the net. As a result, Barcelona were able to celebrate in the Nou Camp as Pedro helped them win all three points at home.
After the game, Pedro Rodriguez was in a jaunty mood as he confronted the press. The Spaniard was asked to rate his performance out of ten and his reply was, “I’d give myself seven or eight … But I always try to collaborate with
the team.”
He further added onto his comments by saying that the game against Levante turned out to be very tricky for the team. He said that even though they were in control of the game throughout the first and second half, they still found
it hard to find the back of the net more than two times. He told how the team tried its best to penetrate Levante’s defensive walls in the first half, but failed. The Spaniard stated that after scoring two goals before the opposition, the pressure eased on
the team. However, Levante took advantage and Christian Stuani pulled one back for them which made the game tricky all over again.
The La Masia product said that the team was trying its best to find a goal through long crosses. However, they were failing to find the back of the net this way. After failing to score through that strategy, they reverted to their
short passing and eventually started scoring. He said that the team played extremely well, but Levante were a great defensive side who were able to defend almost all the threats imposed by the La Blaugrana.
Pedro Rodriguez also talked about the “hard game” coming up during the midweek. Barcelona faced Athletic Club before 2010 ended and it was their last fixture of the previous year. The Catalans had to end the game in a goalless
draw even though Josep Guardiola introduced all his favourite three strikers up front – David Villa, Lionel Messi and Pedro Rodriguez.
After drawing the game against Athletic Club in the Nou Camp, it meant that Barcelona’s hope of qualifying in the next round of the Copa del Rey were dependent on the away fixture at San Mames. It is definitely a historical place
for Pedro Rodriguez as he scored his first goal in that stadium.
While commenting on the Copa del Rey fixture against Athletic Club, Pedro Rodriguez said, “It will be a very difficult game … But we will do all we can to get through.”
