Pedro de la Rosa hopes to return to the Formula 1 grid with HRT next season
After being released from team Sauber for the rest of the year, Pedro de la Rosa was replaced by Nick Heidfeld to race for the team for the rest of the season. Pedro has revealed that he is in talks with HRT about a return to the sport next year.
De la Rosa started the 2010 season with Sauber but was forced to leave the team from the Singapore grand prix and onwards. After his departure from the team, he decided to become the test driver for 2011 tyres suppliers Pirelli and if given a chance, hopes
to return to racing in Formula 1 with HRT. HRT is one of the three new teams that were introduced this year.
“If their sporting project is interesting and ambitious, I'll be happy to be with them. So far there is no hurry,” the
EFE news agency quoted him as saying.
However, HRT has not revealed anything about such developments for the next year after its ties with 2010 chassis suppliers Dallara, forcing the team to stick with their initial car for the rest of the year without any aero upgrades. De la Rosa claims that
he was in touch with the team’s owners and with a little support, he could sign with the team in the near future.
“I am in contact with the Carabantes. We talk a lot. For Spain it is very important to have a formula one team and what they have done so far has much merit. Now we [Spain] have a team but we are not getting the best value. They succeeded in just a few months
to have a car on track at the start of the season and will have another car next year,” he said.
However, the project currently needs more support. Not only from the companies but also from experienced drivers like Pedro and the fans of course. The team has to get behind them in order to succeed in the near future.
De la Rosa was in conversation with HRT before Campos Meta at the start of the season before securing his seat at Sauber. HRT ended up with Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna in the end as their full-time drivers but have chopped and changed between drivers
ever since with drivers like Sakon Yamamoto and Christian Klien also making appearances.
