Pedro de la Rosa might end up as McLaren’s third driver once again
Pedro de la Rosa is ready to join McLaren once again in case if he does not get a race seat in any of the teams for the 2011 season.
The driver, announced earlier today that his first priority is to get a place as a main driver in any of the teams for the upcoming season but in case he does not succeed in doing so, his 'plan B' is to return to his test and reserve role at the British
squad.
There had been some reports earlier this month that the driver might get attached with HRT for the next season, but now the chances seem very little. The Spanish veteran while talking to the media earlier today admitted that there are very few seats left
for the next season, and they will be taken only by drivers who come with strong sponsorship. Owing to the fact that the driver lacks sponsors, his seat for next season seems very uncertain.
However, he is still adamant to keep trying till there is a possibility as he stated, "If in the end I have to be a reserve or a tester, I will, but first I will try everything to race.”
The 39-year-old De la Rosa drove behind the BMW Sauber’s wheel this year for fourteen races but was hardly able to impress the team in any of them. He was unable to finish six of the rounds and was only able to score six points all through the season. The
best finish by the driver was seen at the Hungarian Grand Prix where he finished seventh.
In the past years, De la Rosa has served with McLaren for a number of years as a test driver, and is now hopeful once again that he will be taken in the crew once again. Moreover, it was also reported last month that the 2008 world champion and McLaren’s
ace driver, Lewis Hamilton has also asked the team to offer the Spaniard a third driver position for 2011.
However, De la Rosa still confirmed, "I am trying hard to be racing, but if it doesn't happen it is not the end of the world. I am calm because I know what I'll do if I don't find a team to race with."
