Pedro de la Rosa says Ferrari stronger than they appear – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team driver, Pedro De la Rosa has advised that he feels Ferrari team is showing too much pessimism about the first Grand Prix of the forthcoming season to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia as he believes that the Red team is
hiding something.
“They are better than people think,” he told Cadena Ser radio. “On the other hand I know that there are teams that are stronger, but I wouldn’t rule out the podium — I assure you.”
The Italian team had been seen struggling during all the pre-season tests concerning the aerodynamics of the new car F2012. Where on one side the technical director, Pat Fry had expressed discouraging remarks about the team’s preparations for the first race,
on the other side the team restricted its drivers from speaking to the press in order to prevent any negative comments regarding the team.
Nevertheless, Fernando Alonso said that they would make improvements before the season-opener. However, he said that the team was still facing difficulties in the new car and there was a lot of work which had to be done.
De la Rosa thought that the Italian marquee had their problems like every other team but their car was faster than it seemed.
Furthermore, Felipe Massa said that they were not sure about the performance of the car in the upcoming season as they were not satisfied after all the pre-season tests. Nonetheless, Massa believed that they had a strong team which was capable of making
enhancements as the spell would evolve.
“It is true we tested a type of exhaust and realised it was not the right thing. But last year everyone was 90 per cent sure we would fight for the title and then we did not. But we have a very strong team and I have lots of faith in their capacity to be
able to develop the chassis during the season,” said Massa.
Moreover, Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari team principal had also notified that they had quite a long year ahead in which they could definitely make improvements as the season would progress.
